‘Learning Disabilities’- the two words which are probably the most misunderstood, misinterpreted and ignored in the purview of a student’s life.
What is it? What causes it? Is it for lifelong? What is the remedy? And many more doubts, queries as well as myths and facts pertaining this issue were addressed and discussed in an awareness workshop on Learning Disabilities and It’s Management, on 14th April, conducted by Ms. Geet Oberoi, Founder President, Orkids and a special educator par excellence.
The program was an eye opener of sorts for everyone present; teachers, parents, school management and principals, special educators, and speech therapists.
Each child is unique, born with diverse talents and skills and the need of the hour is to recognize and acknowledge the same, so as to nurture and hone the child’s overall personality. The ultimate aim of teachers and parents alike should be to raise and educate a child to grow up to be a ‘happy and content’ human being.
The Palace School under the aegis of Princess Diya Kumariji, has taken this initiative towards inclusive education. The school has collaborated with Orkids Multidisciplinary Clinic, Delhi which is doing pioneering work in the area of Learning Disability.
The school is aiming at addressing the special needs of a child through special educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists to bridge the gap between the expected and actual performance of a student.
We look forward to continued support and co-operation from all the well wishers, to make this endeavour successful.
Every child is proof that God hasn’t lost faith in mankind. Let us work towards making these miracles of God even more precious.
